It's more important than ever to enjoy the outdoors safely. According to Mountain Rescue England and Wales, incidents continued to rise, (markedly in North Wales, the Lake District and Edale), with the last five years seeing a substantial rise in 18-24-year olds calling for rescue. Read the full report.

Together, we can keep the outdoors wild, welcoming, and wonderful. 🌍

1. Leave No Trace

  • Take everything home — including litter, food waste, and microplastics.
  • Leave your pitch or rest spot exactly as you found it (or cleaner).
  • Avoid damaging vegetation, disturbing wildlife, or leaving fire scars.

If you can carry it in, you can carry it out.

2. Be Prepared and Stay Safe

  • Plan ahead and know your limits — your safety is your responsibility.
  • Check the weather, pack appropriate gear, and tell someone your route.
  • Use equipment responsibly and report damage or faults when returning rentals.

Smart planning prevents avoidable rescues.

3. Protect Wildlife and Livestock

  • Keep dogs under control and on leads near animals or nesting birds.
  • Never feed wildlife or leave food scraps behind.
  • Camp and wash at least 50m away from water sources.

We share these spaces. Treat every creature as a neighbour.

4. Use Fire Responsibly

  • Avoid open fires unless in permitted areas.
  • Use a camping stove instead - it’s safer and cleaner.
  • Never leave flames unattended and ensure ashes are cold before leaving.

One careless ember can undo a lifetime of conservation.

5. Be Kind to Others Outdoors

  • Keep noise to a minimum, especially at night or in shared spaces.
  • Greet fellow adventurers with warmth and respect.
  • Give way on narrow paths and be patient in busy areas.

The outdoors is for everyone - let’s make it welcoming.

6. Leave Places Better Than You Found Them

  • Pick up litter (even if it’s not yours).
  • Report path damage, pollution, or hazards to local authorities.
  • Inspire others by leading through action and example.

Protecting nature starts with small, consistent acts.

7. Share Responsibly

  • Avoid geotagging fragile or lesser-known spots.
  • Celebrate responsible adventure online — not risk-taking or rule-breaking.
  • Credit the communities and landowners that make access possible.

Inspire, don’t impact.

8. Respect Access and Local Laws

  • Only camp where you’re legally allowed to - get permission if unsure.
  • Follow local bylaws, signage, and landowner requests.
  • Park considerately and never block gates or farm access.

We’re guests in every
landscape we visit.

9. Respect the Gear Again Community

  • Treat rented gear as if it were your own — clean, dry, and ready for the next adventurer.
  • Report any issues honestly; transparency keeps everyone safe.
  • Remember: being part of Gear Again means belonging to a movement that values people and planet equally.

We’re all stewards of the outdoors - let’s act like it.
